Are we longing for a puzzle game? Yes, we are! I know I am, at least. This "KAMI" app has been appearing on my Playdar for several days already, but having had more important matters to address, I let it simmer on my backlog, so I can bring it out in full view today, for your enjoyment and informed decision making.
KAMI 2, to be exact is the sequel to a game, which, after looking for it on the Play Store I found nothing of the sort but weird Indonesian christian dung. It appears that the original has been either scrapped or rather has never been released on Google's platform. Who knows why...
The puzzles consist of filling shaded areas with another color. Doing this in succession will inevitably turn the current tapestry into a single-hued splash. That's also the point. The trick is solving it in the fewest steps possible. Of course, the more intricate the original pattern is, the more you will have to study it before going in. However, trial and error is also a viable method of determination.
Despite the title being a Japanese play on words, the word "kami" can stand for either paper(紙) or god(神), the ambient music sounds very Chinese. Although I find this to be a mildly unpleasant mismatch, the overall effect is pleasing to the ear as well as to the eye.
Speaking of which, KAMI 2 is one of the sweetest eye candy games out there. The colored areas are all arranged on a fixed matrix of triangles, where every element is adjacent and can transport color only to its three neighbors. Whenever you apply a new color, all of the adjacent triangles of the same type will flip to the other side in rapid succession, making each move a spectacle to the eyes. This visual stunt is also accompanied by a crunchy paper sound effect for a complete sensory.
KAMI 2 also comes with a puzzle editor. Using a color set of your choice, you can design a puzzle to your liking. You may keep your creations private, or share them with the player base as full-fledged puzzles. KAMI 2 lets you explore community-created puzzles, but also brings up tricky ones on a daily basis. So you'll have plenty of challenges, even after you complete the original sets.
KAMI 2 can get as difficult as it is beautiful. Do not underestimate the capability of a single triangle matrix to squeeze your thinking brain to the maximum. Make sure you eat enough fat to keep it running, or sugar if you want a rush. In any case, even failed attempts look as impressive as the correct ones.
